I had just finished prepping for my first bikini competition and was only a couple of weeks out of my second one when I had a complete breakdown about how things were going. I had been with my coach at the time, for the last 18 weeks prepping for the two shows and was running on no carbs and no fats (literally my macros said ZERO). I knew that it was not the right way, or the healthy way, but I told myself that I would finish it out through that first show and get it done. After the first show, I knew I couldn’t continue. My friend recommended me to Carson, and just talking to her on the phone the first night, I knew that I would be in good hands. Her philosophy on cardio and macro tracking matched what I had learned through research and what I believed in as well. In the next two weeks leading up to my second show, I was fed more, not only physically but mentally. Carson was, and has been ever since that first phone call, one of the most encouraging people I have ever met. Since my second show, we have reversed dieted for 20 weeks, and there was never a check in where she didn’t stay absolutely encouraging and supportive but also honest and real. Through my reverse diet I know that I have really made some metabolic gains, strength gains and physique gains. My body has come back into balance and I also feel as though I understand that process of bodybuilding more with her guidance as well as myself as a women. “My experience thus far has been absolutely wonderful!! I have done 2 preps with Coach Lauren and we are working on our 3rd. 🙂 I honestly was hesitant at first doing online coaching as it doesn’t seem quite as personal-able or maybe even reliable. But I gave it a shot and I couldn’t be happier. I can honestly tell you I have had better communication with Lauren than I have had with a LIVE coach. You can tell she truly cares about her clients and wants them to succeed. This past prep made me feel that way without a doubt that I knew choosing Lauren was the best decision. She was there for me 100%, she wanted so much to make sure I was on point that she would have me check in with her daily and the days leading up to show day she would even have me check in with her multiple times that day. “I started working with Lauren Irick in March 2016. To say working with her has changed my life may seem overstated, but it is the only adequate description for how her knowledge, process and motivation can be described. She has helped me reshape my body, renew my self confidence and has given me a sustainable, effective method for eating, working out and living.

I have always been a thin person, genetically. I have also always been very athletic and active, I’ve had a gym membership since high school. I am very comfortable with working out and was even a kickboxing instructor at one point. I have considered myself to be in good shape most of my life and have always gone to the gym 5-6 days a week. When I had my first child in January 2015 I gained 30 pounds which was the most weight I have ever gained. The weight gain was expected and embraced, but I honestly thought with my background and understanding of working out I would be able to “bounce back” quickly. Reality quickly made me realize how hard it would be. I hired a personal trainer which went nowhere. I scoured bodybuilding.com and followed multiple workout programs and eating regimens. Some were okay others were a terrible fit. After 13 months of dieting, exercising and trying hard to get back to my old physique, I had managed to lose the baby weight, but my body looked nothing like it did pre-pregnancy. I finally reached out to Lauren, who I had seen online and admired not only her physique, but her approach to fitness, knowledge and honest approach.

Our goal was simply to increase my lean body mass and “firm me up.” Within one month I had lost a few pounds and was already starting to notice a change in my body. More importantly was how empowering Lauren’s approach was! Tracking my macros and controlling what I ate without calorie counting was such a welcomed change! It was also something that I immediately knew I could do forever, so it was sustainable. Over the months I have found new foods that I love and creative ways to make healthy meals, all while enjoying pizza and taco nights with my family and various mouthwatering food options at the Mets Games. I don’t feel restricted at all and it has led way to my new body that I am so proud of! Food has become more fun and my own success has inspired my husband to follow a healthier lifestyle and only supports and encourages what I want to teach my daughter.

Within an insanely short period of time (5 months!), I am sustainably 4 pounds below my pre-pregnancy weight and the most muscular I have ever been in my entire life. I am complimented daily by strangers and my husband cannot get enough. It is a feeling I’ve never known and it inspires me to want to continue to work harder. I am focused and inspired at the gym now and am excited to go. Her workouts are always changing and build on one another. Even being familiar with weight lifting prior, her workouts keep me trying new things and constantly challenging myself.

I only wish I had found Lauren sooner! I plan to continue to work with Lauren as I work to have future children, knowing that the 18 month journey I took to find my old self will be half that time with her guidance and process. Not only is she incredibly knowledgeable and supportive, but she inspires through her own hard work and dedication. She does what she says and follows her own guidance through her personal struggles. The fact that she shares this with her clients and her community creates a foundation of trust and makes the relationship more than just a transaction of macros and workouts. There are many coaches out there that follow IIFYM, but I find that Lauren has zero self interest or vanity and is dedicated to educating clients and helping them achieve a healthy, well balanced life. She has helped me develop an understanding of my body to allow me to create something I never thought was possible.”

“When I first started working with Lauren, I was unsure of what macros were or how flexible dieting worked. All I knew was that I had just come off of a 30 day challenge and I wanted to continue healthy eating but I had to find something else other than a low carb, high protein diet.

Lauren was so helpful to me and answered all my questions. I had her create a meal plan for me the first month so I could learn how to track macros, as well as different food choices that I could fit into my plan. Within the first month I learned quickly how flexible dieting was an amazing way of eating and staying on track. I have been working with Lauren for quite some time now. During this time, we have reverse dieted to the point that I was eating more than 250 carbs a day! I was eating more than my boyfriend was! And yet I was still maintaining my weight! I am in the best shape of my life and could not be happier using the IIFYM way of eating. Lauren has given me the knowledge and the tools for me to work on my own. However, I have developed such a great relationship with her that I continue to work with her to keep me on track, to push me when I am feeling weak, to help me look at my progress with a second set of eyes… and to keep my motivation high! I love checking in with her every week so she can tell me things she notices that I have improved that maybe I don’t see.  We have all been taught that carbs are bad but they actually are necessary for us to grow, to stay healthy and to build muscle. Any time I hear someone say to me they can’t eat a lot of carbs, I give them Lauren’s contact info. Lauren has proven to me that I can eat a lot and still be fit, that I can eat normal foods and not have to stick to a strict diet, and that I can maintain a lifetime way of eating healthy without the yoyo dieting. “I began working with Lauren in January of 2016. When I finally reached out for some coaching help, I was eating about 1200 calories and 120 grams of carbs a day. I felt stuck and really thought, “ok, this is just how it’s going to be and what I’m going to look like”. I was so wrong.  I wasn’t looking to get ready for a competition like many that Lauren coaches. I love following all the competitors but that’s not for me right now. Lauren’s coaching for me has been focused on lifestyle, balance, increasing my intake, getting stronger, and getting leaner.

I am so grateful that somehow through reaching out to another coach, I was matched with Lauren. To say she is a perfect match for me would be a huge understatement. I felt like we connected immediately and everything she said, all her words of wisdom, just made sense. I already had a good knowledge of tracking food and macro counting and I dove right in with the recommendations and numbers of macros that Lauren gave me. I also started paying more attention to pre and post workout carbs. I had a pretty good workout routine and kept that going. The first week, I think I dropped a pound. Lauren kept upping my intake, and pounds kept coming off. Some weeks I lost a pound, some weeks a half a pound, some weeks I gained, or stayed the same. We started with a reverse, then we cut, and now we are reversing again. On weeks that I got discouraged, Lauren would encourage me. Lauren we tell me not to stress. She would remind me that it’s not always a linear process. She would remind me how far I had come. I looked forward to every Tuesday when I checked in with Lauren. I looked forward to MORE FOOD! I looked forward to more strength. Everything just clicked!

It wasn’t always about my macros, the food, or the scale either. Lauren has always put my health and happiness first above the numbers. She takes everything into consideration. Lauren helped to find flexibility with food, to make this a lifestyle, and led to a huge mental shift for me. I found confidence in myself. I found freedom to enjoy meals out with my husband, family, and friends. I had freedom to travel and trust my choices, knowing that it wouldn’t cause a 10 lb gain! During the year, a lot of LIFE happened – I had 2 deaths in my family, I spent 5 days out of town and in a hospital room following a family emergency, my dad was in the hospital several time, I traveled to be in a friend’s wedding, I went on vacations, and celebrated birthdays and other happy moments. I even took almost 3 weeks off of counting when I traveled to Colorado – I ate mindfully, enjoyed great food, and stayed active. With the good and bad, Lauren was there to encourage me and remind me to trust the process. I say all that to remind everyone that they don’t have to be perfect all the time. You can’t be perfect all the time. Live life. With my consistency also came times for the needed flexibility.

And now, more than a year after beginning to work with Lauren my intake has increased to over 2200 calories with 300 grams of carbs and I’ve lost nearly 30 lbs! I never in my life would have thought I’d be able to eat so much. It made me incredibly happy the other night when I caught my husband bragging to someone about how much I eat. He’s watched my battle and he can’t believe how far I’ve come either. I’m so proud of how far I’ve come and I owe so much of it to Lauren. She guided me and continues to guide me.”

I have been competing for two years and have had a few coaches before that utilized strict meal plans. Meal plans were not the best option for me as they felt extremely rigid, discouraging, and restrictive. While this can be effective for a handful of people, the restriction led to binge eating behaviors that became difficult to manage. I did not think I would ever be able to compete again due to my tarnished relationship with food.

“Lauren is an incredible role model first and foremost which is what originally attracted me to her as a coach. Well, that and her incredibly competitive background and success as an athlete.

As someone with a lot of coaching, personal training expertise, a masters in Exercise Science and a bachelors in Dietetics, I never had a plan to get a coach when I entered the world of competing. I made it to the National level within 6 months and saw Lauren Irick there in person for the first time. Although we didn’t have a chance to speak in person, I emailed her immediately after my placing was less than I had hoped for. She wrote me back right away and even gave me immediate feedback from my stage shots, as well as macros to follow until we had our plan set up after nationals. I began officially working with her in August to prep for a local show in October followed by Nationals again in Miami. For the purpose of showing her effectiveness as a coach- we won overall at the local show and placed 13th at nationals in November. In just 3 months of working with her, we had an overall and 4 months, an actual top 15 placing at the hardest national show of the year.

Lauren provides my macros and also gives cardio recommendations, suit/hair/beauty recommendations and coaches my posing. If I need another expert’s opinion on my strength training plans, she’s my go-to. Together, we have been able to progress my status as a competitor faster and more effectively because of her knowledge in the Bikini world. But Lauren is so much more than just effective at delivering performance for her clients. Obviously this is what I pay her for, but in return, I get so much more. I have a friend, a counselor, a mentor. I have someone who understands what I’m going through who is empathetic and compassionate when I fail. I have a cheerleader but someone who can be real and honest with me at the same time, push me and hold me to the standards and expectations I have laid out for myself. Lauren likes to tell us, this is your body. I set my goals, she helps me get there. There are coaches out there who choose to make those decisions for you, which results in not meeting goals, unreliable, sporadic and unreachable support and to be blatantly honest, most have no business providing exercise, let alone diet advice. There are coaches who are only invested in furthering their status and careers and then there are coaches like Lauren who are invested in my health first and foremost. Mentally, and physically, Lauren preps her clients in a HEALTHY way. We don’t pull water. We aren’t encouraged to use laxatives and fat burners. We are coached to eat well-balanced, drink a ton of water and not over exercise. Lauren takes her time with clients and listens to OUR needs.

Lauren is also completely open and transparent about her own competition prep. This allows us to relate to her as athletes and as WOMEN. If you’re serious about competing, there is ONE thing everyone should be aware of. No matter how much knowledge you have, whether you may coach girls yourself or know all the science behind this stuff, a solid coach is necessary for one more reason. Your brain is NOT your brain when you’re in prep. Many serious competitors will reach stages of prep where mentality begins to swing and shift, questions begin to form that shouldn’t even be on our minds, body image starts to become distorted and truly, we are to the point where we can’t make good decisions about our bodies. Typically this is a few weeks out from a show and not a point where you want to have any sort of instability. Having someone like Lauren guide you is truly, the only way.

Lauren is the single only person I would pay,let alone trust with my prep- considering my personal experience working and educating in this field. I plan to become a very competitive pro so my decision for a coach, let alone who it would be was not a decision I took lightly. To be a competitive pro has been the goal since day one and I have zero doubt in Lauren getting me there. I know that she will be a forever friend and I am deeply grateful for her and so proud of her accomplishments and to stand behind her this year.
